Stratford Racecourse is one of the UK’s most reputable horse racing venues, hosting a whole string of high-end fixtures that take place throughout the year. From annual events and one-off races to charity-focused fixtures, Stratford is deserving of its strong attendee numbers and critical acclaim in the UK racing circles.
One of the most significant races to be hosted at the English course is the Foxhunters Champion Hunters' Chase; a race that takes place every May in the gorgeous, picturesque area of Stratford-upon-Avon. The other big event held at the venue is the Stratford Summer Cup.
The Foxhunters Champion Hunters' Chase is an evening race run over a distance of three miles and four furlongs and is open to horses of five years of age and above. The race is often referred to as the third jewel in the Hunter Chase crown, after the Cheltenham and Aintree Foxhunter. The event has taken place at the end of the Hunter Chase season ever since it was established in 1958.
Recent winners of the Foxhunters Champion Hunters' Chase include Chosen Dream in 2018 and Wonderful Charm in the 2019 running. The race was abandoned in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic but made an explosive return the following year. In 2021, the race was won by Ireland’s Law of Gold, saddled by Dale Peters and trained by David Kemp. The horse completed the track in 7m 7s, with the winning owners enjoying their share of the £20,000 purse. The race was sponsored by Pertemps Network; a long-established sponsor of Stratford Racecourse events.
